Catholic cemeteries are prayerful places of reverence. The Catholic Church sets aside in perpetuity and solemnly blesses or “consecrates” the land of Catholic cemeteries. It is in this environment where Catholics dedicate themselves to the Corporal Work of Mercy to Bury the dead; the Spiritual Work of Mercy to Comfort the sorrowful; and the Spiritual Work of Mercy to Pray for the living and the dead.
Catholic Cemeteries are an extension of the parish community where those who worshiped together now rest together, awaiting Christ’s return in glory. Burial in a Catholic cemetery is a final act of faith, a witness to one’s belief in the resurrection and everlasting life.
