Prayer Chalice for Vocations
The purpose of the Traveling Chalice is to encourage families and/or individuals to pray for and promote vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom He is calling to follow Him in a very special way.
The consecrated Chalice is a tangible reminder of this special intention for the Church. St Olaf began using the prayer chalice in the early 2000’s. We hope that those who bring the cup home will continue to pray daily for vocations.
How it works
Families or individuals may sign up to host the chalice for a week. The family or individual will come forward to receive the chalice from Father at the end of the Mass for which they signed up. The family/individual takes the chalice home and puts it in a place of honor. Each day for a week, during prayer time, pray for an increase and perseverance of vocations (suggested prayers are included). The following weekend, bring the chalice and prayer books back to church and place them on the stand in the Good Shepherd devotional area (choir side). This is a perpetual program and you may sign up to host the chalice as often as you like.
